The Black Males in Engineering (BME) research project aims to explore how Black males experience science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) pathways from early childhood through graduate education. The BME website serves as a hub for a series of videos and handouts that derive from the largest collection of qualitative data on Black males in engineering graduate programs.
One of my first projects at WCER, this effort had an immediate impact on their content and communications strategy. I led a brand and logo development process, using a custom workbook I created to guide conversations around mission, goals, audience, and tone.
From the start, BME wanted a visual handout—something people could take and share. I helped shape these by identifying key audiences, focusing the content around a central theme, and designing each piece to align with their respective video.
As part of their communications strategy, I recommended BME use social media to spark conversation and reach a broader audience. While I didn’t manage their accounts directly, I provided branded content to support their launch and future promotions.
Produced by the talented team at Source TEN (Milwaukee), these award-winning videos earned a 2025 Silver Telly. While Source TEN led production, I provided the branding and style guide that shaped the look and feel of the series and accompanying website.
